INPI joins the Global PPH program
The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO) joined on Saturday, July 6, 2024, the Global Patent Prosecution Highway (Global PPH or GPPH), an international program of multilateral cooperation among Intellectual Property offices that promises to revolutionize patent processing.
GPPH facilitates the sharing of examination results among participating offices, speeding up the processing of patent applications where patentable subject matter exists. This includes results obtained under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
This initiative is part of the 2023-2025 Action Plan of the National Intellectual Property Strategy (ENPI), and increases Brazil’s total partner offices from 23 to 35.
The current rules of the PPH, established by INPI/PR Ordinance No. 78/2022, remain valid until a new Ordinance is published by BPTO, and the examination results from new partner offices can only be utilized following said publication.
