Important changes to the PPH (Patent Prosecution Highway) program starting in April 2025.

The Brazilian Patent Office (INPI) has announced that Ordinance INPI/DIRPA No. 26/2024 will be revoked as of April 1, 2025, establishing new criteria for receiving requests under Phase V of the PPH Pilot Project.
Briefly, the new rule provides for:
•3,200 requests per year, distributed quarterly (800 per quarter);
•A limit of 140 requests for applications with main classification in technical area H04 – Electronic Communication Techniques.
These changes directly impact applicants who use the PPH to expedite the examination of their patent applications in Brazil.
